The Area

First mentioned in the Doomsday Book as Hanstone, Hinton St George can be traced back to the 12th century. Nestled in the countryside of South Somerset, this quintessentially English village lies mainly within a conservation area, with many of the properties being listed and built of the beautiful mellow local Ham stone.

Despite its old-world charm, this popular village has excellent facilities. ‘Our Shop’ is a community owned and run shop and Post Office with a wide range of stock, much of which is locally sourced. The 17th century Lord Poulett Arms is a superb pub with two lovely gardens and many accolades to its name.

The village also boasts tea rooms, a farm shop and café, allotments, a taxi firm and a village hall hosting a wide range of community events for all ages and tastes, as well as an outside football and cricket pitches and children’s play park.

The Hinton St George Church of England First School caters for children aged 4-9 with an independent Pre-school also on site. State education continues in the nearby catchment schools in Crewkerne of Maiden Beech Academy providing for ages 9-13 and the Wadham School thereafter. There is also an excellent range of private and preparatory schooling within easy driving distance.
